Betsy the Beaver
Betsy describes herself as a loud lady from Brunswick Maine, but that may be by comparison to the other residents of her home town. A little bit of Stephen King is probably in the air though, and gets absorbed into her fondness for drawing clowns. Betsy’s current fursona of a beaver follows her previous avatar of a red squirrel. With a beaver, Canada’s national animal, and a squirrel in her past you have to wonder if she’s a distant relation of CanFURence’s Squynx mascot.
As if being a self-taught story-board artist, character designer and animator wasn’t challenging enough, 2018 sees her adding mother to her CV. This has resulted in some editing of her activities.
Betsy comes by her anthro cred from a childhood exposure to things furry before she knew what that meant, with her active participation in the furry community starting in 2004. Looking at her art you can see the influences of her idols in the world of animation: Don Bluth, Milt Kahl, Chuck Jones, and Disney. Her artwork was featured as a banner for Fur Affinity in 2008, and she was the Guest of Honor for Midwest FurFest 2016.
Betsy is one of three creative partners for the webcomic Tales of Avalon, acting as Lead Visual Development Artist, Art Director, and Co-Producer. Tales of Avalon is set in a fictional universe of bi-pedal anthropomorphic beings, with the current storyline having the feel of 1001 Arabian Nights meets Disney. It is expected that the Tales will continue in 2019 after things settle down again with her expanded family.
Betsy`s artwork is seen widely through the fandom, ranging from custom badges, sketches, portraits, and commissioned art of all kinds. You can find out more on her website www.betsythebeaver.com, follow her on twitter @betsythebeaver, on Instagram as @betsythebeaver too, or catch her on Twitch.
